BYUI Week 1

So I thought that I would start a blog so that friends and family back home can know what I'm up to out here in Rexburg.  The plan is to update it every Sunday evening. Whether or not that will actually happen is another story...but I'm going to try!

I guess I will start off with the trip out here. My dad and I left home on Monday, and arrived at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming on Wednesday morning.  We stayed at the Old Faithful Inn that night, which was a very interesting (and cold) hotel.  We saw quite a few geysers, including Old Faithful.  There was also a lot of wildlife like bison and swans etc.
By the way, IT SNOWED. IN SEPTEMBER. THAT'S NOT OKAY.

Oh, okay.

Thursday and Friday we moved things in to my apartment and met all of my roommates.  They are all very nice and we get along really well!  Friday night we did some orientation activities like a talent show and outdoor games (which by the way we did these at night and it was FREEZING).  Saturday included more orientation activities and opportunities for the new students to get to know people.  Saturday evening my dad and I went to a great dinner at my cousin's house!  So finally, today (Sunday) I went to church in Rexburg for the first time. I am in the 63rd ward!! All of the meetings were so great and spiritual! I definitely enjoyed it! After church I had to take my dad to the airport. It was hard to say goodbye but I know that I will be fine out here and it'll only be 3 months before I'm home. This evening I went to the temple and met up with a bunch of people that I have met over Twitter over the last few months.  They all seem so nice and hopefully we will see each other around campus.

Tomorrow I start my classes, which I am not looking forward to, but I'm sure it will all be fine.  We call our teachers "brother ____" or "sister _____" instead of "professor" which is kind of strange/neat.  Also, all the classes also start and end with a prayer! It's like a culture shock out here with all the Mormons, but I love it so much.  Also, tomorrow night is FHE and we are going to a place called I-jump which is basically a building filled with trampolines! I'm so excited.

Anyways, overall, I LOVE BYUI and Rexburg.  No matter where you are on campus or in your apartment, you can always feel the spirit.  We start every meeting with an opening prayer and end with a closing prayer, even the talent show!  Everyone is so nice and helpful and there's just a great spirit here.  There are a lot of things I am going to have to get used to, like the elevation, the lack of humidity, and especially the weather, but I am so looking forward to everything that BYUI has to offer me.  I know this school is where I am supposed to be.

I hope all of you have a great week and I would love to hear from you! If you want to email me, my email is aahowe96@yahoo.com!

Love,
Anna.
