BYUI Week 5: Cozy Campfires and Shivering Kittens

I had such a great week this week! I don't really even feel like I did anything, but it was just a good week.  For FHE on Monday, we had a bonfire and roasted marshmallows and starbursts which were delicious!  After the bonfire we went up to the rec room at the boys apartments and played pool and ping-pong and just hung out for a while. I forgot how much I like pool, so now that I've played again, I'm obsessed with it.

On Tuesday I took my first test in the testing center for physiology and it was torture.  I hate the testing center.  And I didn't do so good on it, but apparently a lot of people didn't because my professor said that whatever grade we get on the next exam, he will put in for our first one too! So I have to study super hard for the next exam so I can make sure I do well!

Wednesday was just a weird day but it was full of exciting things!  For one, I saw a kid unicycling to his classes on campus... and then I went to the Crossroads to get some lunch and there was a chick-fil-a cow in there!! There was a used book sale going on in the library so I went and got 3 books for $3!  And finally I went to my friend Jess's house that night and hung out with her for a while!

Thursday was non-eventful but I did hang out with my friend Taylor and we played an intense game of candy land. #college

So in my science class we are working on a project about study habits, so Friday afternoon I met up with my group and we actually had a pretty fun time working on the project! We have to meet up again on Tuesday though because we didn't finish.

Saturday was an interesting day that turned out nothing like I thought it would.  So I went over to Jess's house again, because we wanted to take some fall pictures.

After our pictures, we went for a walk to a cat rescue place to see the two cats that hang out outside.  While we were petting those cats, we noticed a tiny little kitten (probably about 6 weeks old) sitting on top of a box on the front porch.  It was inside a gate so it couldn't get out.  It was chilly outside and the wind was blowing and this poor little kitten was shivering! So I took my scarf off and wrapped the kitten up in it to keep him warm and he fell asleep in my scarf!  I was super mad that this rescue had left such a tiny kitten outside when it was cold out.  Anyways, the rescue wasn't open, so I decided I would come back once it was, just to make sure the kitten was inside and to get my scarf back.  So later I headed back down and once I got there, I knocked on the door.  A sweet little old lady answered it, and I asked her if she had my scarf.  She looked at me like she didn't know what I was talking about, so I said "I wrapped the kitten on the porch up in my scarf because it was shivering." She then asked me what "kitten" I was talking about. So I told her about it and she said that someone must have dropped it off, because they didn't have any kittens and would never leave one outside! But then she said it was very strange that the kitten wasn't there when she arrived, and neither was the box.  So apparently someone took the box and the kitten, and my scarf!!! (I almost thought she didn't believe me so I showed her the pictures I took of it!)

So the lady (named Karen) invited me inside to see the cats that they have.  I walked in and there were so many cats, way more than I have ever seen in one place.  I asked her how many they have, and she said they had cut it back to 93!!! WHAT?!?! But surprisingly, this rescue was incredibly clean, the cats were all healthy and seemed happy, they had plenty of food, litter boxes, and space to run around! I ended up staying there for 2 hours playing with all the cats and talking to the two ladies that own the place.  They are so sweet and told me all about how they got started and they made sure I knew that the only reason their rescue was successful was because of the help of God. They said that so many times they don't know how they're going to find the money to buy food for all of those cats, but as soon as they needed it most, someone donated either money or food to the shelter. They also told me that once a cat arrives at their shelter, they never send them to the pound or have them euthanized, once the cats are there, they are there for good until someone adopts them!  They also spay and neuter all of the cats and help other people financially to have their cats and dogs fixed. I think I am going to try to help them out by donating some food and litter! I just really appreciate people that do so much for animals to make sure that they are happy and healthy!

Anyways, Sundays are always great, but this one especially!  Church was so great and the lessons were all really well prepared!  After church I got my temple recommend from the bishop so now I can go to the temple to do baptisms!  I also got my patriarchal blessing recommend so all I have to do now is set up an appointment with the patriarch to get my Patriarchal Blessing.  I am so excited!!

I hope you all had a great week!

Love,
Anna
